Best Things About Owner Driver Jobs – Your Answers

Hello, my dears!

Hope you have all had a wonderful Christmas and are looking forward to 2017, whatever it may bring. There's a lot going on in the world right now, but there's always, always something to look forward to – you just have to stay proactive and positive!

Here at Gertie's Cafe, that's exactly what we try to do every day. Which is why I explicitly stated last week that our latest reader interaction would have a positive approach to the question, rather than a negative one which could have the effect of putting everyone in a bad mood!

What question is that, you might ask? Well, I asked my readers, specifically those who are self-employed, to write in and tell me their very favourite things about owner driver jobs. And I don't think I need to tell you I got loads and loads of great answers, as usual. Unfortunately, I also don't need to tell you we have limited space here at the Cafe, so I had to pick only three of the many excellent replies I got. You can find them below.

'Probably my favourite thing about owner driver jobs is the freedom. Independent couriers can make their own schedules, take on the jobs they want (and pass on those they don't) and make their own pricing scales, as well. It's everything you ever wanted as a teenager, only with more parcels!' - Timothy, Greater London

'I love the job security. I work for myself, so of course I'm not going to lay myself off, am I? I'm set for life! Sure, the work is not always guaranteed, but it's a trade-off I can live with. I think that if you work hard, are polite and always follow through with your clients you'll make a good honest living - and what more do you really need?' - John, Shropshire

'For me, the main reason owner driver jobs are better than permanent corporate jobs is the fact that you can have several clients at once – so if someone is offering better terms, you don't have to turn them down just because you're working for someone else. You can have several contracts going at once, with different clients – I like that!' - Emma, Bedfordshire

And on that note, we wrap things up for the year. I hope to see you all here in 2017, for another twelve months dedicated to all things courier.

Until then, Happy New Year, and…ta-ra!
