The Rewards of Excellence: The Van Excellence Scheme

Hello, darlings!

Before we get into today's subject, let me just say – my latest post got better feedback than I ever expected! A lot of you found the fuel-saving tips useful, and I got several messages from people telling me they'd never thought about some of those things and were going to put them into practice. I can't tell you how happy that makes me – it certainly makes covering a serious subject worthwhile.

A Scheme for Excellence

So I've decided to stick to a serious subject for our second post of this month, too, and let you darlings know about something else - which again may be useful to you if you make a living doing owner driver jobs. No, it's not more tips on fuel efficiency – it's something arguably even better! In this post I'm going to tell you about a scheme that rewards couriers for outstanding performance – it may even help a few of you make some extra money, or at the very least improve your reputation! I'm sure more than a few of you qualify...

The scheme is known as the Van Excellence Awards, and it's been set up to encourage both courier company owners and those with owner driver jobs to observe best practices when conducting their business. Personally, I think this is a great initiative – because nobody likes shoddy customer service, in deliveries or in any other area of service. Giving people a prize for being good at their job is a fantastic way to help them take pride in themselves and be the very best they can be.

The way this scheme works is each driver or company is measured up against the FTA's industry code for good practice. Those that follow it most closely then get rewarded for their efforts with a shiny award, which they can display where they like (in their van maybe?) and boast proudly about their achievement to other drivers!

Sounds fab, doesn't it? Well, it gets better, because this award isn't limited to drivers that work for courier companies. That's right, even those who are self-employed doing owner driver jobs can enter. That was the main reason I decided to make you lot aware of these awards actually, and I'm sure it's a massive incentive for some of you.

So if you want one, you know what to do: polish up your van, brush up on your Code of Good Practices for the courier industry, and go get 'em!

For now, though...

Ta-ra!
