Hello, my dears!
How are we all? Enjoying the warmer weather and looking forward to summer, I hope? I know I certainly am. I am enjoying the way business at the cafe has been picking up, too – while it can get busy sometimes during the chillier months, there is always more movement when the weather is hot, and there are more drivers out and about on their haulage and courier jobs in dire need of a coffee and sandwich! Some of those who come through are on day-long or several-day jobs – explaining the need for on-the-road nourishment – but some mostly work locally, and come in because they like my cooking, the coffee-brewing, and the bit of banter I always offer.
And that, believe it or not, is where I got the idea for this and the next post from – the drivers coming into Gertie's Cafe on the course of their courier jobs. See, like I said, I always offer a little bit of conversation to anyone who comes in and sits down, driver or not, regular or not. This may come across as a bit nosey on my part, but it does give me some wonderful stories – if I had permission, I'd put some of them up on this blog!
What being sociable also allows me to do sometimes is listen to gripes and complaints from customers – some of which have to do with the length of the courier jobs they were assigned. It seems drivers on longer jobs would always prefer shorter ones, while those with many quicker assignments would rather have a longer one that pays better. It's really quite frustrating for them, it would appear.
This, as I said, got me thinking, and I decided to make that the question of the week: how do you prefer to do courier jobs? Would you rather do a long one where you get more money, but where your life is impacted more, or a number of short ones with lower pay but based close to home?
