Hello, darlings!

Either one of you is a practical joker who got confused and decided to play an April Fools’ Day prank several months early, or something extremely odd just happened.

You see, the other day, amid my usual flood of e-mails (I promise I’ll find a way to have comments on the blog soon!) there was one particular one that just made my jaw fall straight to the floor. Apparently, one of my readers runs a small newsletter-type thing where he offers advice about self employed courier jobs, career opportunities for couriers, and all that sort of thing. And for the next issue, he wanted to interview me!

That’s right, my dears – he wanted to sit down with old Gertie and talk about self employed courier jobs, and then publish it for other people to read! I was absolutely flabbergasted. Very honoured, of course, but completely flummoxed as well. I mean, like I said in our four-year anniversary celebration post, I’m just a little old lady who runs a café! What makes anyone think I’d be a good interview for a courier newsletter, other than the fact that I occasionally pretend to know about the industry?

I asked my interloper exactly that, and he came out with an answer that, if my jaw hadn’t dropped already would certainly make it start to move at top speed towards the floor: he said I was an expert. An expert, dears, can you believe it? I told him in no uncertain terms that I was no such thing, but he insisted that my knowledge of self employed courier jobs had helped him and a lot of other people. He told me most of my advice was spot-on, and that I didn’t know any less about the industry than some of the actual professionals of the field he had spoken to!

Well, needless to say, praise is the way to a girl’s heart, and I eventually agreed to give the interview. I’m just waiting for him to get back to me with a time and date so that we can get together and chat. So yes, my dears, I am going to be a celebrity! (Well, sort of...) Bill, eat your heart out!
