Early Starts in the Delivery Service Industry

Written by Gertie | 20-Sep-2015 17:52:40

Hello, darlings!

Well, here we are again, at the end of another month. They do just seem to fly by, don't they? I suppose it's because, here at Gertie's Cafe (both the real one and the one on the Internet) there's always something going on – I do like to keep myself busy!

Answers to Reader Interaction

This week I'm going to publish another round of answers to a fan-interaction question, which I asked last week. If you remember, I asked my readership how they had gotten their start as delivery service professionals – or, more specifically, what their first courier/delivery operation had been. The answers I got were predictably diverse, and I have had the usual hard time picking only a few to publish – but that's the kind of problem you won't catch me complaining about!

Here are my favourite answers for this week:

'My first delivery service experience was actually working for my Dad – who is also the person I 'caught the bug' from. I started working for him as a teenager, and only left when I had enough money saved up to start my own operation. Needless to say, he was dead proud!' - Mark, Berkshire

'I got my start doing delivery service for my village baker. This was back when grocery shops and such still had delivery boys, and I was the one who did that round my village, on my bike. I must have been about 12 or 13...ah, simpler times!' - Rob, Staffordshire.

'My 'formative period' for delivery service was working for a large multi-national company. So yes, I got in at the deep end – and it was just as scary as you may be imagining it was. But I struggled through, and most of what I know today is due to that trial period – so I suppose it turned out for the best in the end!' – Lou, Cornwall.

This is what I love about my readership – no matter what the topic may be, there are always so many contrasting experiences and points of view. It really makes these answer posts interesting!

See you all next month!

Ta-ra!
