Hello, my dears!
I hope you are all having a great week, full of successful deliveries and profits!
Even if that isn't the case, I do believe after you've read today's post you might feel a little bit better about yourself. Because you see, this week, I've deliberately set out to create a fun and light-hearted post that I could enjoy along with my readers. We've been getting a little serious around here lately, and I miss the days of question-and-answer posts and fluffy subject matter. So I thought I'd jump in on that 'throwback' trend and go back to our more carefree days, even if only for a week!
How did I do that, I hear you ask? Well, if you read the title of this post, you may already have an idea. That's right, I went out and looked for the oddest courier job stories I could find and compiled them all into one write-up!
(By the way, before anyone asks, I DID think of asking you lot, but there wasn't enough time. So I apologise in advance.)
With that said, and without further a-do, onwards to the odd tales!
The Real-Life Delivery Stork
Our first odd delivery story comes from a time before courier services even existed – specifically, the early 20th century, when for a time people used to pop to the post office to mail, err, babies!
Yes, you read correctly – babies. It seems some parents would actually ship their baby, as opposed to sending them home by train, because it turned out cheaper. Some even insured them! Fortunately, this practice has been outlawed since 1915 – but even still, you'd better hope you never get handed a baby to deliver as a courier job. You just never know though...there's nowt as queer as folk.
Something's Fishy
Another odd courier job was the one where the family asked their driver to help relocate their garden pond. That's right – the whole thing! And I do mean a pond, not an aquarium – which means the fish were in a semi-natural water hole and the delivery man was expected to somehow lift it off the ground and transplant it from Essex to Somerset. All without disturbing the fish! Definitely something a bit fishy about that!
A 'Top' Delivery
Finally, there is the story of the delivery company that was called upon to do a courier job to Mount Everest! That's right, the highest mountain in the world. The story goes that two mountaineers were attempting a climb at the time and they'd run out of supplies. Consequently, one lucky courier ended up playing a major part in the success of their expedition! Can you imagine how it must have felt? Talk about living the high life!
There are many more where those three stories came from, but I think I shall be leaving it at that for now. After all, we need to save something in case there's a Volume 2, don't we? So, for now, the only other thing I'll say is...
Ta-ra!
