Hello, my darlings!
How is everyone doing this week? Hopefully not feeling like an old woman, like your Aunt Gertie! I'm having a bit of a hard time shaking off the birthday blues, I'm afraid. Hopefully, publishing all of your wonderful posts will cheer me up!
And wonderful they were, as always! No matter what else may be going on in my life, I can always count on you lot to deliver on these reader interactions. I swear, each time we do one, you lot just seem to get better and better.
This week was no exception. When I asked you to chime in about whether there should be a 'retirement age' for doing courier work, I was hoping to hear from all demographics and points of view – and I wasn't disappointed! Most of you offered unique viewpoints, all of which made sense despite often being very different to one another. Below are my personal favourites for each different side of the argument, so as to keep this discussion fair and balanced.
"I don't think there is a need to set a fixed age for retirement from courier work. Maybe in corporate fleets, but not self-employed. But I do think, once you start noticing your body and senses failing you, you should consider taking a step back – better safe than sorry, as they say!' - John, London
'There should definitely be a retirement age for people who do courier work, just like there is for everything else. Especially because they're dead slow. Get out of the way, grandpa!' - Eddie, Essex
'I don't think there needs to be one, to be honest – as long as you still feel fit and up to the task, why not carry on doing it? Especially if it's something you love! You'll know yourself when it's time to retire – no need for anyone to tell you. I'm well on my way to 70 and still doing my bit of courier work every day!' - Lou, Wiltshire.
There you have it – three entirely different points of view, from three very distinct portions of my readership. And that, my dears, is why I love these interactions!
Until we have our next one, though, ta-ra.
Gertie
