How I Got My Courier Job: Steven's Story

Posted by Gertie on 03-Mar-2013 16:23:00

Hello, darlings!

Today, I'm all dizzy with excitement, because I've got a surprise for you! Long-time readers will surely know about my nephew Steven, the one who has a courier job. I mention him all the time on this blog! I've even gone on a couple of road trips with him, when I got into my head that I wanted a courier job of my own. That particular flight of fancy was short-lived, but I still get a few e-mails every week asking how Stevie's doing. So instead of answering you all one by one, I thought I'd do one better: I decided to let my nephew write a post for my little blog! And that, my dears, is what you're about to read below: Steven, in his own words, telling us how he came to hold the job he does today. Enjoy, and do forgive any less literary passages – my Steven is a dear boy, but a writer he isn't!

Right, so...Aunt Gertie said I was supposed to write something for her blog. So...yeah. Hey. I'm Steven. Gertie, who writes this blog, is my aunt. I just said that, didn't I? Soz. I don't do much writing – I don't do much reading, either, to

be honest. I like the odd footy mag or truck mag now and again, but books are a bit too wordy for this fellow here.

Anyhow, since Aunt Gertie writes a lot about couriers and all, and since I am one, I thought I'd tell you how I got my current courier job, which is for a large-ish company and pays really well.

It all started back about two years ago. I was on the dole, and going to the job centre every other day, but nothing was coming up. I was a bricklayer before, but this mate I have, Gav, told me what I should do was try to get a courier job. It's easy, he said – just get something to ride in (or in my case on), and start delivering parcels and bringing in the dosh. It sounded okay, so I gave it a go.

Now the way I started out was, my Dad had this old bike sitting around in the garage, so I fixed it up and used it to go around delivering parcels to people's homes when they needed. It was easy and it was a bit of all right – you got to chat with everyone, and I got some pretty good tips sometimes too.

Over time, I started getting more parcels and heavier stuff and more important papers and things, so I thought it was time for a bit of a...what's that word? Upgrade! Now, my Dad had an old van sitting around as well (seeing as he's

fifty-nine and blind as a bat), so I started using that. I started delivering people their parcels in my "new" van and what do you know, someone called me up for an interview for a real courier job. Apparently, these guys had heard about me from someone here in my village and 'head-hunted' me – that's what they called it, 'head-hunting'. Crazy huh?

Anyway, that's the current job that I have now – and I don't look like going anywhere soon. So if any of you are on the dole and losing hope, I'd advise you to have a go and maybe do what I did. All you really need is a vehicle and some contacts. Think about it - I'm sure the driver down your town could use a bit of help...why not just ask?

Anyhow, let me know if you liked this or if I bored you to death. Probably that second one. Later!
