Hello, sweethearts!

You know, with all the serious and depressing things that we talk about in this blog sometimes, it’s nice when something comes along that is capable of cheering us up. I’m sure that’s what you come here to see, isn’t it, my dears? Well, apart from all the news and tips about courier work, I mean.

Well, regardless of what moves you to read this blog, today’s story is almost certain to warm your heart. You see, on the course of my Internet travels, I happened to stumble across a group that does volunteer courier work for charity, right here in the UK!

Their name is the Cornwall Freewheelers, and what they do is absolutely admirable: they volunteer to carry out after-hours courier work for local hospitals and clinics, using their motorbikes to carry blood bags and other medical supplies between all the NHS-funded institutions in their area. And they do this for absolutely no pay! Isn’t that amazing?

It always touches a soft spot in this old bird’s heart to see something like this. I come across so much that’s bad in my day-to-day life these days that I cherish anything that can make me see that there are good people in this world – and that is definitely the case here! These boys (and girls? Someone from Cornwall please enlighten me!) are doing something that is not only admirable in and of itself – charity – but also doubly admirable because it is being done to save lives, and triple admirable because the Freewheelers are putting their own lives at stake to do it! Motorbikes, as we all know, are dangerous and, even at night when there aren’t as many people on the road, driving at a high speed like these boys and girls do is always a risk.

So yes, I am in love with the Cornwall Freewheelers – and so, apparently, is everyone in their community. The riders are sponsored by a handful of local companies, are a National Lottery registered charity, and even get given new bikes on a regular basis! And the best part is that they give back to the community, being present in and even organising a number of events, such as a motorcycle rally.

All in all, these guys are (or ought to be!) an inspiration to all my readers. The next time you find yourself moaning about how much courier work you have to do for such little pay, remember – some people are out there doing it for nothing, and they are not complaining! Think about that...

Until next time!
