I'm afraid August is turning into a bit of a serious month – I mean, we haven't had one of our fan interactions or anything, and here it is the last week already! But I also think, now and again, it doesn't hurt to be a little more serious, wouldn't you agree?

All this to say that, yes, today we shall be tackling another 'actual' subject – no room for fluff this month, it seems! Perhaps we shall make up for it in September, when I run out of subjects...

For now, however, let's talk about same day distribution. This is a great thing to be able to boast of offering when you are in the courier/delivery field – after all, what client doesn't like to know their package will arrive at its destination mere hours after it's picked up from their office? If you can pull this off, I would say you were well on your way to building a loyal customer base, and will do good business in the future.

The problem is, in order to be able to offer same day distribution you'll need a number of details to be in place, which are not always possible to unite under one (van) roof. I thought I'd dedicate this post to pointing some of them out, just in case any of you are thinking of adding it to your list of services.

First and foremost, I'd say that if you're going to try this you need to have a crack logistics team (even if it's a team of one). Distribution can get confusing at the best of times, and when you factor in the urgency of dispatching an delivering on the same day, you had better make sure your guys and girls are up to the task! Otherwise you run the risk of everything becoming rather a mess rather quickly.

The next thing you need if you want to attempt same day distribution is a willing team of drivers. Your lads and lasses need to be okay with putting in the extra work necessary to ensure goods reach their destination on the same day. Remember, more than half of the work is on them – they need to be on board in every sense of the word.

If you have this, plus some shrewd management and organisational skills on your own part, by all means give same day distribution a stab. If, however, you think your infrastructure may not be quite there just yet, don't despair – keep at it until you're ready to launch.
