Hello, my dears!
I hope you're all well and continuing to enjoy this not very sunny, but rather mild spring we are having. And, of course, I hope you're ready for another romp through the wonderful world of courier driving, courtesy of yours truly!
Now, I have to admit this month's subject had even old Aunt Gertie baffled. See, before I happened to overhear my nephew Stevie talking to one of his mates, I had absolutely no idea [**owner driver jobs**](https://courierexchange.co.uk/about.html) could be recruited for, or that you could carry them out on behalf of someone other than yourself! I thought it was all in the title, you know? *Owner* driver jobs. As in, you OWN your job and you're the boss of it...you know?
Apparently not, though. It seems you can just as easily simply own just your VAN and do the rest of the work on behalf of someone else, just like an actual corporate job. And just like any corporate job, if you're the fellow (or lady) who owns the company, you have to recruit.
**Hiring Drivers
**
So, that's what we're going to be talking about today: how to recruit for owner driver jobs. The minute I heard those two lads talking, I knew I had a theme for my next post, so as soon as I could, I grabbed Stevie and set to doing research so I could know what I was talking about.
And what did I find? Well, I found recruiting for this type of job is just as hard as hiring for any other position. There are a lot of factors to consider when hiring self-employed courier drivers. Owners looking to expand their business need to make sure they're ticking all the right boxes when hiring new people.
Factors to look out for when selecting owner drivers for your business include:
- Making sure they have a valid license, in this case for commercial vans
- Checking they have a Certificate of Professional Competence, or are in the process of getting one.
- Checking that they're willing to keep records of their drivers' hours for regulation purposes.
Add to that the fact that they need to have the right temperament, experience and salary expectations to fit your needs, and you can certainly see why it's so important to get the right people for owner driver jobs.
**Make Checks**
Remember, if something appears fishy about someone's license, you can always check to make sure they are telling you the truth, using **[the Government's own website](https://www.gov.uk/check-driving-information)**. This is really important as you really don’t want to get caught out hiring an unscrupulous person.
Well that just about covers it in terms of what to look for when recruiting owner drivers. Hopefully it helps some of you out there who are looking to expand your business and don't know where to start.
