Hello, my darlings!
I know I have told you before about my nephew Steven. He's in his mid-20s, and until recently he was in between jobs, the poor dear. It's horrid, isn't it, this recession? How do they expect young people to gain experience if every other job requires experience? It really makes no sense! Back in my day, it was quite a bit easier to find employment - I really don't know what this country is coming to…
Oh, but you must excuse the old woman, dears. It's just that I scarcely recognise this country anymore, and it frightens me. I was telling you about Steven. Well, after spending quite a while looking, with very little luck I might add, Stevie decided to take matters into his own hands. So he got on his Dad's old scooter and started taking on self employed courier jobs around town.
When he first told me about it, I must admit I was not the most supportive of aunts: I just could not see how delivering parcels for what amounted to little more than tips could ever lead a young man to financial stability. To my surprise, however, Stevie did very, very well. So well, in fact, that he soon traded his bicycle for my brother's van, and started taking on bigger orders. Eventually, a courier company based in our area came around with a contract, and just like that, my nephew had a steady job again!
When I learned about this, I was so very happy for him that I began to go around town advertising self employed courier jobs as a way to make some money when you are unemployed. I told everyone I knew about what had happened to Steven, and suggested that, if they knew anyone who was in need of a job or some ready income, they should look into this type of position. I was so excited about it, that I think the ladies at the job centre must not be too fond of me at this point! Can you blame me, though? I had a success story right there under my nose! Wouldn't you have done the same?
In fact, you know what, darlings? I want you to do the same. If you have had self employed courier jobs in the past, or know anyone who has and has done well, write in with your stories, and I shall publish them in an upcoming post. I am really curious to know if you other darlings out there did as well as my Stevie. So do write in, my dears – I can't wait!
Until then, ta-ra!
