It's Gertie here, back from Spain and in a sunnier mood than ever! Unfortunately, England seems determined to not share in my disposition, as reports from friends tell me it's been raining on and off over here this entire time! Well – here I am in Benidorm, Spain, enjoying a two-week holiday break courtesy of my dear nephew Stevie! It's absolutely brilliant here, and this old lady has been having a blast! So different from glum, rainy England...

How is everyone's week going? Well, I hope. Mine has been quiet – it always is, during the summer – and I'm already thinking of my two weeks coming up in sunny Spain later this month!

Well – summer is here, and I am fully expecting a decrease in post readership to be just around the corner. After all, anyone and everyone who was able to escape this "Country of No Summer" will have done so by now, and will be basking in the sun in Marbella or wherever else you choose to spend your holidays. To those people (who may or may not get to read this while they are away) I want to wish a very happy break, which will hopefully help them recharge batteries in time for the return of the busy autumn season.

I hope you have all been enjoying the continuing spring-summer weather – as I think I said last week, it took a while for the rain, rain to go away and be back another day, but it appears it finally did. I have been encouraging my patrons to take their orders outside, and I've even set up a couple of tables so they can sit out in the sun and eat.

Well – winter has certainly put up a battle this year, but it seems the cold has finally gone away for good (fingers crossed). The days are becoming longer, the temperatures are becoming balmier, and it appears to be almost that time of the year again – that's right, England is finally due its yearly two weeks to a month of summer!
